*****BOW HUNTING ONLY WHITETAIL HUNTS***** At Sunset Ridge Outfitters you will be hunting some of the most productive fair chase deer country in the state of Ohio for 5 1/2 days! Our hunting grounds are in Licking County as well as surrounding Counties, all of which are some of the most producing counties for record book bucks taken in the state of Ohio. This hunt is NOT A HIGH FENCE OPERATION, therefore there are no guarantees! We can give you statistics, but again, hunting is hunting and we can't promise success! What we can promise, is that you will be comfortable, you will enjoy yourselves and your hosts and guides will work as hard as they can to see that you get the opportunity you came for! All hunts (unless otherwise specified) include meals and lodging. You will be hunting for 5 1/2 days as opposed to most outfitters who only provide a 5 day hunt for the same rate. Each day, once your hunt begins, a continental style breakfast will be provided, a bag lunch if you wish to hunt all day and a home cooked meal for dinner when you come in from your hunt. We suggest that you come prepared to spend ALL DAY in your stand! This is not an easy thing to do for a lot of hunters, however harvesting big mature whitetails is not an easy task! We are up front and honest with our clients, there may be days you spend all day and not see many deer, however that can change in an instant! We can promise you, that big, trophy class whitetail are here in large numbers and that if you HUNT HARD, your odds will increase dramatically!!! This is a FAIR CHASE hunt and a great opportunity to take home a trophy to be proud of!!! All of our stand locations are between 12 - 25 ft. high and are set in what we feel to be the best locations on the property, however, climbing stands are allowed and with approval from your guide you can change your location using your climber. You must provide your own safety harnesses and they are required to be worn at all times when hunting out of a tree stand of any kind. Ground blinds can be very effective if used right and extremely practical for taking young kids, elderly or handicapped hunters, therefore, they are also allowed with location approval by your guide. We are here for good, so there will be no piece of ground over hunted for any reason what so ever. We will only bring in enough hunters to cover less than half of ground that we have and will practice strict management, while still allowing our guests to enjoy themselves and not feel the added pressure of killing a buck that might not meet our requirements. We do ask that you only shoot bucks that will score 125" P & Y or better, however, there are no fines at Sunset Ridge for bucks scoring under this, because we feel a happy hunter means we did our job! Just remember where you are hunting, and that a chance at a trophy buck could always be just a few seconds away. If you have questions about scoring a buck on the hoof, please ask your guides before your hunt starts, they can give you some pointers on what to look for as well as showing you examples of what a 115" deer looks like as opposed to a 135" or 160". A comment that we like to use and is one to remember is, "you can't shoot a BIG one if you kill all the small ones". For hunter's that are looking to harvest a doe on their trip, it is allowed and encouraged with the proper deer tag, however a fine of $300 will be enforced for taking a button buck! Ohio is an over the counter license and tag state which means you can plan your hunt for whenever you want and not have to worry about drawing a tag for the year you are ready! It is the hunter's responsibility to obtain all licenses and tags needed prior to their hunt (see Ohio DNR for info). Our deer season opens in the last week of September and goes into February. For exact dates see our Rates and Dates page. All forms must be filled out completely and your deposit received by the specified date in order to consider your hunt booked. Please keep in mind that there are only two things that will end your hunt with us immediately. One, if you break the law/laws set in place by the state of Ohio and the Ohio DNR and two, if you move your stand location or are caught walking the property without permission from your guide (this includes deer drives). If you are caught doing either of the above your hunt will be over immediately with no refund. So let's recap what you will receive during your stay with SRO. A 5 1/2 day fully guided fair chase hunt in the best counties the state of Ohio has to offer, in pre hung stands on private land scouted and managed intensely by the professional SRO staff, a new and comfortable lodge with all amenities and necessities, a professionally taken framed photo if successful, a great time with your down to earth hosts and most importantly, a chance at a true Ohio Giant!!!!!!
